V is for Victory

Man it feels so good. That's all you heard around the Germantown Bears' locker room on Tuesday January 15. We finally broke the 10 game losing streak with a well deserved win over Central High School on our home court. The mood was somewhat playful in the gym without the coach around, but once the well known Ted Silary walked in the gym, all that changed. Everybody immediately got up and started to clean up, and prepare for the game.

For those who don't know who Ted Silary is, he is a high school reporter famous around the entire Philadelphia area. He is known for turning nobodys into somebodys, and that is what he came to do at Germantown. We have two players on our team that are brought up as our main "scorers." When other high schools talk about G-Town's scorers, those two are Jon Mason (yours truly) and Khalief Mason (no relation).

However, after last Tuesday, I believe teams will be doing a lot more than just talking;some planning will be done as well. Ted Silary gave Khalief an amazing write up in the Daily News, and gave me some nice shoutouts, and overall it was a good day. But we are just keeping one thing on our minds, and that is don't get happy, everything is strictly business.

Who we are

Ms. Hoffler
A former community news reporter, Ms. Hoffler is the adviser/instructor of the newspaper journalism class at the Philadelphia Military Academy at Leeds. She is working with her staff to produce a paper of the finest quality. Ms. Hoffler also teaches English and SAT Prep at the school.

Ryan Haggerty
Hello, my name is Ryan Haggerty. I am part of the first graduating class of the Philadelphia Military Academy at Leeds. In school I volunteer for community service, sports, and other activities. For journalism class we are starting a school newspaper and my responsibility is the Poll section. For the Poll section I gather ideas and personal data from teachers and cadets. I am always proud of my work, regardless of how it is graded. After high school I plan on going to college to major in business administration.

Adler Roseau
Hello to all my fellow cadets! My name is Adler Roseau. I am a senior of the Class of 2008. I am currently our sports columnist at the Knightly Scroll newspaper. I am a very active person; I play many sports such as basketball, track, football, and lots of PT. When I graduate I want to go to college and do something useful with my life. The reason I joined the school newspaper was to know that I helped with a great project. Hope you enjoy our school newspaper.

Paul Hart Jr.
My name is Paul, my friends call me Paul, and I am known as Paul. I get along with everyone and everyone gets along with me. If they don't, we have a problem. I play basketball and I draw in my free time. Whatever my career is, I plan to do tattooing on the side. Well that's enough of my info. Stay pretty Philadelphia, except south....

Jon Mason
Hello my name is Jonathan Mason and I am a part of the Philadelphia Military Academy's Knightly Scroll. I will be featured in the Calendar of Events section. I am a fun person to be with. Whenever I am not in school I am always playing basketball or working out. My main goal is to graduate high school and get into college. I also play varsity basketball for Germantown High School. This is my third and final year; hopefully we can go all the way. Well that's all the time I have for you today. Oh, don't forget to comment on my blog!

Glenda Barnett
I am Cadet Barnett of Platoon 101. I am honored to be a part of the school paper. My goal is to make this paper successful. I will be putting my best effort into this paper and making sure my fellow teammates are doing so as well. I love to go shopping, talk on the phone, and read Zane novels. After high school I plan to attend a good college to achieve my goal of becoming a lawyer and living life to the fullest!

Cierra Porter
My name is Cierra Porter and I am 17 years old. I am an Aquarius and will turn 18 next year. I enjoy all kinds of music and I am very unpredictable at times. I'm very laid back and down to earth. I get along with just about anyone. I'm very serious about my future and where I end up 10 years from now. I love to hang out with my friends and joke around. However, you really have to know me well to see my silly side. The two people I look up to most are my mother and Maya Angelou, simply because they are two strong black women who went through a lot and survived. I'm also a very sweet person once you get to know me, and you can tell I have a big heart. One of my great qualities is I'm a great listener and can give great advice, so if you need some, get at me.

Paul Maiellano
Cadet Paul Maiellano is an aspiring English major after graduating from PMA. He attends English classes in the dual-enrollment program at Eastern University, where he maintains a 3.5 GPA. Aside from classes at Eastern, he also carries a full course load at PMA, and plays on the varsity football team for Germantown High School. Paul is Editor in Chief of the Knightly Scroll.

Sara Watson
My name is Sara Watson. I have been at the Philadelphia Military Academy for three years. My rank is Second Lieutenant. I am on the Physical Fitness and the Raider teams. I have been on these teams for three years. Since I've been here I have enjoyed it enough to return every year.

Tresurea Nelson
Hi my name is Tresurea La Quia Nelson and I am one of the staff members for the Knightly Scroll newspaper at The Philadelphia Military Academy at Leeds. At age three my mother placed me in dance school because the doctor said I will be a tall young lady. I performed ballet for about 2 to 3 years. I discovered most of my talents, which include singing, playing the violin and playing basketball, when I was in elementary school. When I was in sixth grade, I studied ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop, African and acrobatics at D’shay School of Dance. I’ve been performing at Philadelphia Dance Company (Philadanco) since eighth grade. At PMA I play the trumpet and violin for the school band. My lifelong dream is to become a criminal justice lawyer. I believe I can achieve all things with self-confidence and motivation and effort.

Jorge Rangel
Hi my name is Jorge Rangel and I am a senior at the Phliadelphia Military Academy. I am part of the first graduating class and I am also its first Mexican to graduate. I'm being nominated as the shortest of the entire '08 class and I'm proud of it. I'm into rock music, but not really into that weird, screaming type of rock. I am currently a Target Team Member. But I won't tell you where it is located because I don't want any stalkers watching me while I work, especially Ms. Hoffler, because I know she wants me to get her discounts. But, back to me; I can be very lazy at the bad times, but when I really get to it I can do a phenomenal job, like I am doing now. Well this is all the info I'm going to share about me. So talk to me at school or on Myspace.
Oh, and I do have a green card..lol

Jacob Biggs
Hello my name is Jacob Biggs and I am proud to be in the first graduating class of 2008 at the Philadelphia Military Academy at Leeds. I like to chill with my friends and just hang out and have fun, and I am quite unique. You can’t find any other kid like me because I do me no matter what. I like to play basketball and to watch sports. My favorite basketball player is Kobe Bryant, even if Jon thinks Lebron is better than he is (yeah right). I can’t wait to graduate high school and to move on to the next level, college. I know that PMA has helped me on my way to college because it's prepared me for the unexpected. I am going to end this by saying do whatever you feel is right and don’t ever let anyone make you do something you don’t want to.

Shirley Gaither
I am Cadet Gaither. I'm here to tell you about myself. I am a sweet, generous person. I enjoy drawing things like clothing designs and pictures of people. I am a rose that blossoms in the afternoon, not the morning. I know that's kind of crazy, but it's true. I also love to sing. I have written almost 20 songs. I write Christian and R&B music. I'm a lovable person. I love to act a lot, and I am in all of my aunt's plays. I always play the star. I love to work out at the gym and listen to MJ.
