Lunchtime

Our most recent poll asked your opinions about that extended period between 4th and 6th periods. Some of you may refer to this period as "Lunch"--but based on the votes in our poll, it is more like a locker break. After all, it seems once you pack your bag and then visit your locker, there are 15 minutes left in the period.

So we asked you whether you thought there was enough time during the lunch period. No one voted that the 30 minute period was acceptable, or that we don't need lunch at all.

However, 33 percent of you voted that 15 more minutes would make lunch feel more like, well, lunch. But 66 percent voted, "Wait...we have a lunch period?" With 327 students and one hot lunch line, it seems brown-bagging it is the way to go...just make sure you don't leave it in your locker.

Until next time,
Ms. Hoffler

A throwback

My favorite singer is Babyface. He is truly one of a kind. His music can get to me in many different ways, and no matter what mood I'm in, Babyface can always put a smile on my face.

My favorite song of his is "Never Keeping Secrets." It's just something about that song that just gives me the urge to forget about anything I'm going through at that moment and just be happy.

Have some respect!

Some adults can be so disrespectful on so many levels. I don't think it's right that adults can talk to children any type of way they want and nothing is done about that, but AS SOON AS CHILDREN DO IT BACK IT'S A BIG PROBLEM!! I was always told that I can say whatever I want as long as it is in a respectful manner. But SOME adults still take it as disrespect. I think something should be done about the way adults speak to children.

Cell Phones in School Policy

I think it was dumb to start a rule where they take the kids cell phones because it was way too crazy after school having to get your cell phones. I am just glad that they came around to realize that things were hectic when they kept our phones. I am glad we have them now because what happens if there is a emergency and no one can get in touch at school? It's a good thing to have that cell phone in your pocket.

I know there are people who abuse their privileges, but hey they are the kids whose phones get taken away from them. That's on them but if they would have kept that cell phone policy with P.M.A getting more kids every year, it would have been complete mayhem with 200 kids in line trying to get there phones. I wouldn't have been getting home until probably around 5:00 and I couldn't have it getting home that late.

The ride to school

Ilive 2 hours away from school and it is the worst to get there everyday. But like the school thinks that we should always be there earlier. I already leave my house at 5:45 and don't get to school until like 7:40 and that's if the buses aren't being stupid, because a lot of the buses are stupid It is the worst when it is cold out.

I live in Kensington and go to school all the way in Mt. Airy. I never went to Mt. Airy until I started going to that school. I take 2 buses and 2 trains to school and let me tell you that more than likely the trains and buses are not on time they don't even try to run on time. For real like I only get lucky if I get to catch a bus back to back. I feel like it will be a good day and that's sad because it should happen more often but that is very unlikely to happen.

For the kid in all of us

Disney channel is THE BEST TV channel. They play shows and movies for all ages. In the morning they play shows like "Mickey's Playhouse" and "Disney's Little Einsteins." Those shows are very educational for small children who aren't in school yet. In the afternoon they show shows like "The Suite Life of Zack and Cody," which happens to be one of my favorite shows.

V is for Victory

Man it feels so good. That's all you heard around the Germantown Bears' locker room on Tuesday January 15. We finally broke the 10 game losing streak with a well deserved win over Central High School on our home court. The mood was somewhat playful in the gym without the coach around, but once the well known Ted Silary walked in the gym, all that changed. Everybody immediately got up and started to clean up, and prepare for the game.

For those who don't know who Ted Silary is, he is a high school reporter famous around the entire Philadelphia area. He is known for turning nobodys into somebodys, and that is what he came to do at Germantown. We have two players on our team that are brought up as our main "scorers." When other high schools talk about G-Town's scorers, those two are Jon Mason (yours truly) and Khalief Mason (no relation).

However, after last Tuesday, I believe teams will be doing a lot more than just talking;some planning will be done as well. Ted Silary gave Khalief an amazing write up in the Daily News, and gave me some nice shoutouts, and overall it was a good day. But we are just keeping one thing on our minds, and that is don't get happy, everything is strictly business.

Fun in School

I believe that school should be fun. Teachers should take up this philosophy. If teachers don’t know, it is easier to learn things when it is fun to learn about the subject. I think I could be way
smarter if I actually enjoyed what I am learning about.

Teachers' defense is that you can’t have fun in the work field. The people who actually enjoy and have fun at their jobs actually do a way better job and have a higher success rate. Basically what I am saying is, LIGHTEN UP.

Chris Paul

Is he the greatest point guard in the NBA? Yes, he is. Chris Paul is number 3 on the MVP ratings. His team is 26-12. They are tied for the sixth best record in the league. Chris is a shoe-in for the All-Star game.

Many people do not know much about Chris Paul and his skills. In the McDonalds All-Star game Lebron James was phenomenal. Yet what people don’t know is that it was Chris Paul who dished Lebron every alley-oop he dunked. Yes Chris Paul is the greatest and soon will be the greatest of all time.

Medicine for the soul

Music
I believe music is one of the greatest discoveries of all. I could have the worst day of my life and all I have to do is play the right songs and I will mellow out quickly.

These days the role of music has changed there is no longer a specific crowd that listens to a certain kind of music. Usually African Americans listen to hip hop and R&B. Now more teenaged Caucasians are listening to rap and R&B. And while Caucasians usually listen to Alternative and rock, now there are more African Americans listening to both. I believe that people are starting to realize that it is the MUSIC that counts the person or race that is making it. Way to go America………….

We're successful!

As the date of graduation steadily approaches, many cadets have started the beginning of the rest of their lives. For the Seniors, the last half of the school is here and everyone is buzzing around with excitement. Everywhere I go, I seem to hear "Where did you get accepted?" as cadets ask each other what colleges they've been accepted to for the fall of 2008. To my pleasant surprise, many cadets have been accepted into four year institutions with great credentials.

I still remember my first day at the Philadelphia Military Academ; it was filled with nervousness and excitement. As I walked through the door I saw two large and muscular sergeants with brimmed hats on, much like the drill sergeants in the movies. I walked up to the table to report in and I noticed all of the other nervous faces around me. I began to think to myself, "What did i get myself into?" Little did I know that was the entry way through the rest of my life. Much of my experiences came from P.M.A., all good of course.

It was once said to me that "The only bad experience was one that you did not learn from." I began to try to practice that ideal with every endeavor that I encountered. I quickly began to make friends that would last me through the next four years. Now in 2008, everyone is seeing the lightat the end of the tunnel that everyone talks about. "We're almost done, it's finally here" is the most overused phrase at P.M.A., but Ican not blame them. After four years of classes, formations, push-ups, and homework, its all coming to an end. For those who didn't make it into a four year college or didn't apply, most I spoke to are going to the Community College of Philadelphia or to a trade school. We're actually doing it, we are proving to every one that our school works. We're successful!

Ever since I was about fourteen I have been working at my aunt's shop. While barely making minimum wage I slaved through the hot summers at what I affectionately like to call the sweat factory. I call it this because the shop is well over 119 degrees in the summer.

In the early 1990's my aunt Ardia began her business in New York City. Her company was called Provost Displays and Character Translations Incorporated. What my aunt's business specializes is costumes and scenery for major motion pictures and events. While working with her I have had many experiences, both good and bad, and have learned from all of them.

Since I was eligible to work I have taken advantage of that opportunity. I also know the meaning of a dollar, and that also means what it takes to get one, not just the fact that if one spends it they can procure material things. Some things money can't buy, for everything else , theres master card! Really, I may be the boss' nephew but I work just as hard as any one at the shop. Some of my duties include taking out trash, tediously drilling holes into wood, sweeping, and carrying heavy plastic on roofs. I love my job!

How I feel...

How i feel when I hold a standard but not myself
When I down but you're up,
When things are done in a right manner but wrong to me.
Why do I put myself down when things are great
When you tell me you love me but
I feel loved, lost and confused when things happen to me.
right now I'm lost because of myself and the feeling are confusing.
I don't know what to do?
I need some advice with life.
Help this lost person find her way back to happiness and confidence
I feel all alone in a pit which everyone passes by and doesn't think to look
I just need some help to get on the path of where I was
To start my journey
A little helping hand will be and will be thanked
For putting a smile on my face and keeping the tears inside.

Help?!?

I'm bored again...I don't know what do because I have too much to think about. When I have a lot to think about I write it down because I remember what it was about and to think about it from an outer body experiences. I look at myself and see what is wrong and what I can improve. I see a lot of things wrong with me, but now it's a matter of fixing them. The thing is, I don't know how to? This may seem like a cry for help and you're right. I just need some outside advice for my situation.

Trust

How do you know when to trust someone? Do you trust someone after you known them for a while? Just because you’ve known them for a while doesn’t mean you have to trust them. If your answer is because they are your best friend then why are they your best friend? What have they done to make you consider them your best friend and earn your trust? Do they consider you their best friend?

Some people don’t take certain things like best friends or trust seriously. I, on the other hand, take it extremely seriously. There must be something you have done to gain my trust or be my best friend, and that is what separates the average friend from your best friend. What about you? Think about it.

Questions

I don’t have anything to write so I’m just going to rant on about nothing. What’s up with teachers complaining about you not coming to school and they don’t even come to school? Or how about this, what’s up with us carrying around three heavy textbooks, but we can only go to our locker twice? Another thing is why do your parents constantly complain about the little things we do? At least I’m not out doing god knows what in the middle of the night. Any who…. I have nothing else to say this is Cierra giving her weekly boring blog. I’ll see you next week with another one.

Toot, toot!

This weeks blog will be about our game that we had Thursday, Jan. 17, against Franklin Learning Center. This was definitely a game that we should have won, without a doubt. I exploded, with 30 points and 14 rebounds; this was obviously one of my better games that I had throughout my entire career in the public league.

Not only did I have those monsterous numbers, but I also had 4 thunderous dunks, most of them were off my vertical link. I was suprising myself quarter by quarter and minute by minute. I say we should have won that game because they really did not beat us in a half court set game, they got more than half of their points from fast breaks. If we would have cut down on out turnovers, that would have reduced their fast break points by half and we would have definitely come out of there with a win.

You are all of this to me
by Melissa Collette
you're the thought that starts each morning.
the conclusion to each day
you are in all that i do, everything i say.
you're the smile on my face, the twinklle in my eye.
the warmth inside my heart, the fullness in my life.
you're the hand that's laced in mine, and the coat upon my heart.
my friend , my love, my shoulder to lean on.
you're my silly, mature, caring, thoughtful, bright and honest guy.
the one who holds me tightly, when i need to cry.
you're the dimple in my cheek, the ever-constant tingle in my soul.
the voice that make me weak, the happiness of my life.
you are all i've wanted, you are all need.
you are all i've dreamed of, you are all of this to me.

This poem is very inspirational to me because I can relate to it. I think that if you see someone that you truly care for but you're shy to tell them how you feel, or it won't come out, you should try to think about this poem.

Pass him some cheese with his whine

Every weekend I have to remember that I have to go on the computer and talk about nothing to nobody who reads this blog. Maybe a few teachers might stop by for a visit or two, but that is it. Maybe we should only do one a month, or even one every two weeks. Because this every week crap is getting annoying. I understand we don’t get homework but don’t punish us with these blogs. I hope next quarter we don’t have to do this because I will most definitely fail and dropout.

New England Patriots and New York Giants

See Ed's note here

On Sunday January 20, 2008, both of my teams will be competing in a conference championship game. New England Patriots will be going against the San Diego Chargers and New York Giants will face Green Bay Packers. As a fan I am very proud that both have gotten so far.

Now around my classroom a classmate of mine named Ryan Haggerty thinks the New England Patriots are going to lose to his team. I would like to set the record straight that San Diego will LOSE!!! And New England will once again be AFC Champions and go to win their fourth Super Bowl. My overall goal for this Sunday is for the both of my teams to go to the Super Bowl and meet each other.

By Adler Roseau

He can still dream

Note: This entry was written on Friday, Jan. 18. On Jan. 20, the New England Patriots routed the San Diego Chargers, 21-12. They will face-off in the Super Bowl Feb. 3 against the NY Giants, who on Sunday beat the Green Bay Packers, 23-20.

Sorry to say The End is Sunday! The San Diego Chargers are going to charge through the AFC championship and continue to the Super Bowl. Although the team the Chargers is playing, the Patriots, is the number one seed and has the whole country behind its back, I proudly support and will continue to support the Chargers throughout the Super Bowl. I for one have never jumped on the wagon but, few have friends have. The road to the Super Bowl is close and Phillip Rivers, the Chargers' quarterback, will flow and knock the number one seed out of the AFC. After the Chargers are done with their warm up game, they will worry about the New York Giants or Green Bay Packers.

Green for Life

The JROTC Uniform has become a part of me. When I was a freshman I felt that the uniform was a punishment rather then a unique privilege. Before, the uniform was awkward and uninteresting, but now I am proud to wear the uniform. I did not like the uniform before because in middle school I was never assigned to wear one. Then heading into high school I had to adapt.

Now, without the uniform, I feel weird for four days out of our five days in school we wear our uniform. On Fridays we wear the P.T. uniform which is civilian clothes. Next year is going to be different without the uniform and I do not know whether to be happy or sad. Organization is something I liked about the uniform, and also the respect that came with it. Hopefully it will still show without the uniform and carry on throughout my life.

Do people realize?

The world is much larger than America. Yes America is great, but there is more; there is adventure, amazement, and experience. The world has created a flying machine that can take you to these great places! For days you can enjoy something besides America, besides everyday things. Do people realize life doesn't suck? It is only what you make it. So to the people who take my advice you can thank me later, and those who refuse to try can learn on television.

Teen Smoking

Who really influences it? Does the T.V or the older ones? When I see successful people I rarely see them smoke. Many Hip Hop artists and Rap stars also do not smoke cigarettes. So why do teenagers do it? Almost all my friends smoke and do it on a daily basis. There are no postive effects of smoking and it also damages your wallet.
Many people say they started smoking because of an event or just stress. I believe people smoke because they've heard rumors, for example that smoking relives stress. If you ask me, having cancer later might be a little more stressful. I've heard lots of times that marijuana is the gateway drug, but I say cigarettes are. Just because you can function off them makes them less of a drug? They still kill.

Make a girl feel...

tell her you admire her
always tell her you love her
when she's upset hold her tight ?
pick her out of all the other girls you hang with
play with her hair
pick her up, tickle her & wrestle her
just talk to her
tell her jokes
bring her flowers just because
hold her hand and run
just hold her hand
let her fall asleep in your arms
sing to her no matter how awful you sound
make her mad at you...then kiss her :)
give her piggy-back rides
push her on the swings
tell her she looks beautiful
when she's sad talk to her, even if she's not saying anything back
look into her eyes and smile
give her kisses everywhere
slow dance with her even if there's no music
kiss her in the rain :D
welcome her with open arms & a kiss when you see her
make her laugh and be there for her
when you fall in love with her... tell her

Dare we say, 'Snow Day'????

The snow is fresh and white. The first fall of the year is always the best. It's white, crispy, and quiet when it hits the ground. It's the best becasue you never know when it might snow again or how much it might snow. As the first fall continues, enjoy it; play out in it. Be the kid you always were and enjoy your time and the snow.

Wacky weather

This week my in my blog I will be talking about the weather we have been having over the past couple of days. One day it was 64 degrees, and then the next it was darn near 70 degrees. This type of weather is so not suitable for the beginning of January. It is supposed to be freezing cold with snow on the ground; instead people are walking around in shorts and skirts and whatnot.

I, however, did not buy into the whole spring weather. I still dressed as if it were 40 or 30 degrees outside. Yes, I was extremely hot at times but I was not putting my health on the line just so I could adjust to the weather. After those couple of warm days past it started to get cold again, just like it is supposed to, and people were actually getting mad, but I was glad. I actually thought the world was coming to an end. I mean who wouldn't? April weather in January-- that hasn't happened since the early 1900's.

C, tell 'em how you really feel!

What’s up with these blogs? I’m really tired of writing what I think. This isn’t a therapy session; it’s journalism. I’m starting to run out of things to say. Not many things run through my head every week. Maybe every two weeks, but not every week. Give me a break and I still have three more to write.

Ms. Hoffler thinks I always do the opposite of what she tells me to do; it’s not that, it’s just that I feel that this is really pointless. Why can’t the time be spaced out more or something? It really irritates me. Oh well, at least I just got one of them down.

Look at us!

...And now, a nightmare

By this point in my life I'd owned a few research facilities across the globe. I was on a mission for the states and also for my own reasons. So like an average day on the aircraft my shipmates(penguins and two walruses) and I were studying a 60 foot great white shark and the coral reef in our holding tanks. So on our ship we had 60 foot shark, and I did some tests as I was watching the behavior.

After one test to see muscle movement along the side fins and dorsal fins, I was splashing around on the side of the tank with a 2 by 4. The shark reacted quickly then started to walk up the stairs on its pectoral fins. The dorsal fin was grabbing the rails and walking up the stairs. I had to jump from the stairs to the top of the tower, which was 10 feet taller than I was. My shipmates didn't get out of the way fast enough and they were eaten (penguins can't run). I lost three of the best mates I've worked with. But in the process I was trying turn the valve so the shark would be released into the pen so it could go in its room. I eventually reached it and wished for it to hurry up and turn. As soon as it turned I felt a great sigh of relief that everything was alright.

As I slowly recovered, I looked over the damage to calculate it. I reported it to my chief and received a phone call from Jay about what happened. I suffered small cuts and a few sprains and was told by my physician to stay at home for three weeks for recovery.

Inspired by a dream

I'm having crazy thoughts and hateful intentions
Me born out of love a hateful intention
It's like one day woke up no feelings no heart
Psychotic thoughts clouded my vision
Snap I'm only 15 how much can I bear
My dreams are all good nightmares
All I see is darkness
I had to pause and think to myself what does the darkness mean
I couldn't even answer that for myself
I'm getting sicker and sicker by the minute
These nightmares hold my tongue down so I can't speak what's on my mind
Who has the key to unlock my heart
show your face
The only thing that can outshine my darkness
Is a little spark of love
To make my pain turn
If his love was fire it would give me second degree burns

Handsome

What is handsome
Is it his lovely brown skin tone
or his mind, body and soul
sewn together so perfectly
Certainly bet his smile
It can bring joy and laughter to any emergency
Eventually we would find out
he was angel in disguise
Whose voice saves nations
and smile heals the hurt
Everything about him is heavenly
The others ask me what's his name
I reply, When God created him handsome

Just a Typical Male

I thought you were my angel
Sent from the heavens' skies
I thank God for your presence
But now I wonder why
You took a bow and arrow
Aimed it at my heart
You let it rip right through my soul
and left it torn apart
I started to wonder what went wrong
I loved you without fail
But above all I just learned that you were just a typical male

Dreaming Pink?

Pink Floyd is in my dreams.... I woke up like it was an average school day when I got a call on the banana(phone). My mom said i had to go to my sister's school in the sky for her concert. After getting dressed I went outside, and I saw my cousin Fred was folding himself like a newspaper, while running around in circles. I watched him for the whole process.

The weather man said money was going to fall all day. I left and and caught a flying pig(car). It was a very fast ride to the stairs; they were clouds and steep to climb. After climbing the stairs and watching pigs fly by, I stepped inside the school and saw my sis playing like Jimi Hendrix which was so cool to see. She was playing left handed and the strings facing her. She played for an hour straight. People cheered forever that night and I enjoyed myself. Then i woke up laughing to find this was just a dream.

Gas Parody

During this whole senior year, there has been a certain game that has been going on 6 period. It involves four students who are being kept confidential. Ms. Hoffler and the rest of the class who have been suffering through the smells have only this to say: "Eww!!" and "You guys stink!" and "Ms. Hoffler can you get some febreeze!!"

These guys are on the loose. With the deadly gas they emit, they won't stop until they run out, and I don't think it's anytime soon. Usually they let lose once they become confortable sitting in class. But don't let your guard down because they will let lose when you least expect it.

Staff, What is Going On in PMA??

This past Thursday the senior class had a meeting to discuss how our behavior is the reason we have lost our privileges. Like my fellow classmates, I have to disagree with the PMA staff. Why would you do something like that?

The argument that was brought up in the meeting was that “We are not as bad compared to other schools!!” although this is true, I can agree with the PMA staff when they say “We are a military academy and we need to act like it.” Now by saying that you have just challenged these cadets because they have no reason to behave; everything has already been taken away. What do I think about this? I couldn't care less, as long as that diploma is handed to me. But for others this is a big deal. So I guess we have to see what happens next…. New Year

It's 2008 now. It feels as if 2007 was only about 5 months long. It feels like this is my last year to be with friends every day.

After this year I have to get my life straight-- like get my own apartment or house, get my own vehicle, and to do anything possible to survive out in the world. I am just glad I've made it this far with school and life.

I hope for the best for myself once I finish high school. Im going to miss the kid years when I could just joke around and do pranks. I will soon turn 18 on Febuary 6. "&^*&*&^" I'm getting old. But look at the bright side I can do anything I want as long as I have money...lol

This is not really a blog but an announcement. The first graduating class is going to give out its first yearbook in June and we would like it if all the underclassmen would tell Ms. Jenkins if they are interested in the first yearbook.

Five Months Left

With five more months left until graduation, I have made many changes in my life, from colleges to after school activities.

In the past months of school I have changed my opinion on college. With five months left, time is ticking down and I can not prevent this. Now the seniors and I must make important decisions that will make or break us. School has been practice for the "real world" and I believe every cadet is ready.

The count down has started since the first day of ninth grade and then end is soon here!

My Life's Set!

My career goal I am trying to accomplish is to become an officer. I'm trying to go to the police academy right after I graduate.

But, some people in my life who I won't name keep saying that I won't be able to accomplish that goal for some odd reason. Well, that makes another goal added to my list and that is to show them all that I will accomplish that goal and become what I want to be!

Real Friends

As I grew up, I came in contact with many friends. Most of them had their own motives for being my friend. Losing friends hurts, but I realized that people come in and out of your life for a reason. Each one of those people made me a better person in some type of way. Those friends who have been in my life for a long time I cherish deeply and hold on to them tightly. The way I see it, if they are in my life this long they must be there for a reason. The moral to this story is cherish the friends you have because you never know when you might loose them.

Just That Thang

Thinking about you all day long
Even in church while singing His songs
Reminiscing about the day I first saw you
Not knowing my dreams were bound to come true
I bicker and snare
You listen and don't care
I ask why you would even dare
You answer simply
Your character
My character?
Your character
When I look into your eyes
I could go blind
Because your light shines
When I used to search and find
It would just be the wrong guy
I just had to wait for the right time
And it would surely find
Now that you found me
You may hold the key
Just say and do the right things
And my life and your life would just be that thang

In life there are going to be some things that make it hard to smile
But whatever you do, through all the rain and the pain you got to keep your sense of humor
You got to smile for me now

Happy New Year!

Wow! Do wake up some mornings and think, "Wow, it's really 2008"? It still hasn't sunken in just yet. Seems just the other day the school year began. But you know what they say; it's a new year and a new day. One thing you can look forward to is our newspaper going to print very, very soon.

In the meanwhile, here are the results of our latest poll. It must have been the holiday season that caused such a low turnout this time around. We were down a few votes from before. But thanks to those of you who let your voice be heard!

The question we asked was how much learning happens around the holidays. It seems there's near chaos between Halloween and New Year's, wouldn't you say? Thirty-three percent of you voted that just as much learning happens at this time of year as at the beginning of the school year. But 50 percent said you learn a little less, and 16 percent said not much is learned. But teachers, wipe your brows; no one said they don't learn at all! Hopefully those numbers will rise again as we prepare for PSSAs and the final marking period. At the rate time's speeding, the end of the year will be here tomorrow!

As always, thanks for reading! A new poll will come soon!
